On the outskirts of Veurne, close to the industrial estate, the Almiver building has recently been erected—a contemporary project where functionality and aesthetics meet seamlessly. The complex houses Basic Fit amongst other facilities, along with a series of stylish offices and retail space. For the façade, Claeys Architects deliberately chose sustainable and visually striking solar shading: the DucoSun Cubic by DUCO.

A project full of life
Almiver is more than just a building. It brings together movement and work in a modern, urban context. This called for a façade that not only looks sleek but also contributes to interior comfort. The vertical positioning of the DucoSun Cubic louvres plays a key role in achieving this.
Why DUCO?
The choice for DucoSun Cubic
What clinched the decision was the sleek, rectangular profile of the DucoSun Cubic. Combined with the vertical arrangement, this creates a powerful visual rhythm on the façade. At the same time, the system plays an important functional role in shading the spaces behind. This is particularly valuable for a fitness facility like Basic Fit, which features extensive glazing.
Benefits in appearance and comfort
The fixed louvres provide permanent solar filtering without compromising daylight penetration or views. Moreover, they contribute to reduced energy consumption for cooling in summer—something that benefits both gym users and office workers alike.
Smooth installation
The system installation proceeded smoothly and according to schedule. Thanks to the modular construction, the louvres could be mounted quickly and efficiently onto the supporting structure, with no surprises on site.
What makes this project unique?
The project combines working and commercial functions in a compact volume, with a coherent architectural expression. The DucoSun Cubic louvres are a defining element—they not only give the façade rhythm but also a certain refinement. The visual unity between louvres and façade plane simply completes the whole’.
Positive feedback
Both building users and passers-by have responded positively. The louvres draw attention but aren't ostentatious—they strike a fine balance between visibility and subtlety.
A strong partnership
Sabine Deleu: "The collaboration with DUCO and the other partners was constructive and professional. We particularly value the technical support and flexibility in execution. This ensured the system could be perfectly integrated into our design”.
